If your looking for a virtual audio cable (VAC), that's free, open source and works on Linux, Windows and OSX check out jackaudio.
you can download the source code from
http://jackaudio.org/downloads/
Or you can install it via apt-get:
sudo apt-get install jack
A Gui tool to use is qjackctl
sudo apt-get install qjackctl
A quick start for jack can be found http://www.64studio.com/quickstart_jack
