Banyak keunggulan MIMO dibanding a/b/g. Daya tembus MIMO terhadap penghalang jauh lebih baik, jangkauannya lebih luas, dapat mengenali gelombang radio dari adaptor WiFi 802.11a/b/g, dan menghasilkan transfer rate hingga 300Mbps. Secara konvensional kita minimal akan dapat throughput sekitar 80-90Mbps dengan mudah.&lt;br /&gt;

Teknologi IEEE 802.11n ini dibuat berdasarkan 802.11 dengan menambahkan MIMO dan operasi Channel-bonding / 40 Mhz pada layer Physical, dan aggregasi frame pada layer MAC.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Dua keuntungan penting yang diberikan pada 802.11n adalah keragaman antena dan multiplexing spatial. Teknologi MIMO mengandalkan sinyal yang dipantulkan dari berbagai arah, yang oleh teknologi tradisional justru menjadi sumber interferensi. Kemampuan MIMO lainnya yaitu Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM). SDM melakukan multiplexing secara spatial beberapa stream data independent, secara simultan di transfer didalam satu spectral channel bandwidth. MIMO SDM dapat secara significant menaikkan aliran data seiring naiknya jumlah stream data yang berserakan namun tetap bisa digabungkan kembali.&lt;br /&gt;

Dengan performance yang lebih baik daripada WiMAX, MIMO memungkin implementasi yang jauh lebih murah di bandingkan WiMAX :) ..&lt;br /&gt;
